A people which fights against war ...
In the night of March 24, when the first aerial attacks were flown against the Yugoslav people, 20,000 people spontaneously marched through the streets of Athens, led by KNE and the Communist Party of Greece. A massive police contingent prevented a march on the embassies of the FRG, Great Britain, and the U.S. Slogans like "Killers go home" were painted on Geman tanks that were being shipped through Greece by train. The railroadworkers' union asked its members not to carry out troop transportations. The dockworkers' union, too, demanded walkouts. In spite of a huge police contingent, thousands of KNE members and sympathizers tried to prevent the unloading of tanks at Saloniki harbor. The blockades at the harbor were cleared, thus other forms of protest were considered in order to demoralize the foreign troops. The street signs pointing in he direction of Fyrom were manipulated so that a complete unit of U.S. marines finally arrived at the vegetable market in Saloniki instead of at the town of Skopje. In Saloniki, the marines were welcomed by the inhabitants with mocking comments and expressions. Resistance in the Greek army as well: Soldiers on the destroyer Themistoklis followed a KNE initiative and wrote an open letter. Another 27 sailors joined them. Again and again soldiers in uniforms join solidarity activities. These mass protests of the Greek people contributed to Greece not having joined or joining the attack on Yugoslavia. A people fighting against war might lose the fight but
People not fighting against war have already lost the fight
Even worse. The majority of West Germans supports the German military campaign, the complete destruction of Yugoslavia, and the genocide committed against the Yugoslavs.
Entirely different is the majority's opinion in the annexed GDR. They disapprove of the war against Yugoslavia, as all opinion polls confirm.
The fact of two German states' existence secured peace in Europe. For 40 years. This was reversed with the GDR's annexation by the FRG in 1990. The bigger, stronger, its "role of worldpower" enlarging Germany, as Chancellor Kohl said in January 1991, destroyed the post-World War II order. Germany wages war again and establishes its first protectorate, this time on Yugoslav terrain.
Split the big, aggressive Germany in two small ones again, and peace can be saved. This was why we wrote on the Berlin Wall:
This border kept us from going to war together against other people!
On the day of the German pesident's election we also stood right on the former borderline in front of the Brandenburger Tor, together with one thousand people from East and West, who asked: Was this border removed so that we go to war together against other people?
The border not only ran through Berlin, there ar no limits sets to further border protests.
