To all MO's in World Federation of Democratic Youth and friendly organisations

Dear friends, dear comrades
Free German Youth (FDJ) would like to send your organisation and all your members the best wishes and a Happy New Year!
The century now ending at the final settlement to the proletariat: Victory of October revolution, victory over Hitlers Germany, the building of socialist countries and even the building of socialism in one part of Germany. But in the last quarter the bourgeosie has once again managed to destroy the will of the people.
In the night of New Year's Eve Free German Youth in cooperation with other left people and organisations, shows to whom this past century shall not belong. In Berlin, near the Brandenburger Tor, people in good clothes carry paroles like "For the continuance of golden age", "For the stupidity","For the expropiation of others", "For the dignity of murders". Their march will be accompanied by the music of an opera of Bertolt Brecht named "The Rise and Fall of the Town Mahagonny". It describes the decline of a society and its bourgoisie who hold on to their ideals. This march of about hundred persons will be followed by a procession of ten old trucks representing the "german policy of freedom and democracy" also for reactionary and fascist forces. Bertolt Brecht wrote this poem "The Anachronistic Procession or Freedom and Democracy" and it shows, how the old nazis -in new appearance resurface in West Germany as mayors, judges, parlamentarians and so on. This poem was first brought onto the streets in 1980, then again in 1990 on the occasion of the annexation of GDR. Slogans were painted on the trucks such as "Join us for FREEDOM INSTEAD OF BORDERS", "Join us for FREEDOM INSTEAD OF WORK" and "Join us for FREEDOM INSTEAD OF COMMUNISM". Capitalist freedom's attraction was successful and the last ten years have shown, how threatening and dangerous it is. This poem is more relevant than ever before. Never before in the last years so many been calling for "freedom and democracy" - but which freedom and which democracy for whom is meant? What has capitalism brought us? It has brought the struggle of one against the other. They pronounced socialism dead and now money rules the world. We will not be satisfied with that, because this cannot be the end of the historical development.
Whom will the next century belong to? Let us make sure, that it belongs to us!
