At the 7th of June in 2003, in a southern-bavarian village called Mittenwald / FRG, there took place a very good political event and also a demonstration. We want to tell you about that. These activities were held under the slogan "Against the annual meeting of the SS-Gebirgsjäger (SS mountaineer division) in Mittenwald! Full compensation for the victims of Distomo, Kephalonia, Kommeno, etc.!"

In protest against the meeting of SS-tradition units and their descendants in the Bundeswehr (300 to 500 fascists are meeting there every year and they defend the massacres committed by the fascist Wehrmacht, they are being protected and tolerated by the authorities in doing so) about 250 people from cities all over the FRG came together for a hearing/conference on the subject. Amongst them were also guests from Greece and Italy, who took part as witnesses. At the demonstration following the hearing, about 470 people participated. Here, also the following slogans were shouted by the anti-fascists: "Mass-murder, expulsion, deportation - that is German tradition!" and "Your deeds were plain murder - compensation for the victims!"

Together with Youth Organizations from Northern Germany, the VVN / BdA (Intl. Org. of the victims of fascism) and also the FDJ called for people to participate. We summoned about 20 members of our organization behind a banner saying "Murderers to be put behind bars! Full compensation for the victims in Greece!" This action has proven once again the importance of informing the youth and explaining publicly the facts about the crimes of the Hitler-Wehrmacht committed in Greece. The murderers must be put behind bars! This has to be the firm position of every antifascist and democrat in the FRG. And this is also the best way we can support the just struggle of Greek antifascists and communists for their compensation payments that have to be paid by the FRG.

All compensation payments of the FRG were put on hold after World War Two by the Allied Forces (and also by Greece) until a final Peace Treaty was to be completed, but now the FRG is obliged by international law to pay, since the 2plus4-Treaty in 1990 made it the full legal successor of the Hitler-Fascism.

The guarantuor for the acknowledgement of German guilt is and will be the Potsdam Agreement from the August of 1945. Only when its legal requirements are translated into action and when the German Imperialism is being called to account for the crimes it committed, only then will these very crimes not be committed a thrid time and repeat themselves. This is what we are fighting for in the FRG and the GDR, and today more than ever!
